Drama Alum in Off-Broadway Staging of Moli√®re’s The Misanthrope

Drama alum Robin LeMon ’07 is making her Pearl Theatre Company debut this month in their new off-Broadway staging The Misanthrope, a 17th-century verse comedy by Moli√®re. LeMon will play Eliante in this English verse translation by Richard Wilbur and directed by Joseph Hanreddy, former artistic director of Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Previews began January 14, and the play opens January 23. Performances run to February 20 at Pearl Theatre Company’s home at New York City Center Stage II.

The Misanthrope satirizes the hypocrisies of French aristocratic society, chronicling an eventful day in the unstable love life of the petulant Alceste and of Célimène, a flirtatious young gossip whose salon is home to a number of fops and fools who flit in and out. This will be the eighth Molière production by Pearl Theatre and the first time the classics-friendly company has produced this play.

LeMon is no stranger to classical work; she played Juliet in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet with the Classical Theatre of Harlem. Her television work also includes appearances on NBC Television’s Law & Order: SVU and The Good Wife.
