F.Y.I., D.V.Z.: Students Share Messages for The New School’s New President

To welcome David Van Zandt to campus, The New School News hit the street to ask students what they want their new president to know about the university. From composting to cafeterias to career services, students were eager to share their advice about running The New School.

Mary Robbins, International Affairs

Welcome! The New School is a singular place with a totally different look at higher education, compared to our New York neighbors. It’s such an interesting time right now, with globalization and connecting with the world, things The New School already does really well.

Revaz Ardesher, International Affairs

We should have more recycle bins, and we should start trying to collect waste for composting in all the buildings.

Ben Ruffman-Cohen, Lang

I’d like the new president to make things more accessible for undergrads here, it would be great if Lang’s operations were more relationship-based, rather than systems-based. Otherwise, Lang students can kind of get lost in the crush.

Christine Chi, Parsons

More cafeterias!

Rostislav Roznoshchik, Parsons/Lang

I’d like to see The New School foster an increased relationship with companies outside of the institution. If we have more partnerships with companies when we’re in school, we’ll have more opportunities when we’re out of school. Colleges need to move to a more practice-based model for learning so that we can integrate internships with our classes.
