India’s Foreign Secretary Nirumpama Rao to Speak at India China Institute
On Saturday, February 12, The New School’s India China Institute will host a speech by Nirumpama Rao, foreign secretary of India and former ambassador to China, titled “Prospects and Challenges of India­’China Interactions in the 21st Century.,
Secretary Rao previously served as ambassador of India to China (2006’2009) and High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka (2004’2006). From 2001’2002 she was the first woman spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs at its headquarters in New Delhi. Rao also served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Moscow and a minister at the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC. She joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1973. Rao is also an accomplished singer and pianist as well as a published poet, having written the poetry compilation Rain Rising.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be presented run from 3:30’5:00 p.m. at the Theresa Lang Community and Student Center, 55 West 13th Street, 2nd floor.
