Drama’s Graduating Playwrights Preview Their Work at Staged Reading
On Monday, March 7, The New School for Drama held a staged reading introducing graduating playwriting students and their work to an audience of literary agents, managers, and producers. Playwrights had the opportunity to describe their latest projects and present a short staged reading of an excerpt from their thesis play. The evening ended with an informal meet-and-greet reception.
This is a great opportunity for the playwrights to network and get themselves out there,, noted Robert Hoyt, director of professional development. It gives them the chance to make face-to-face contacts, and get their work heard in a very simple, yet effective, way.,
The excerpts read during the evening are from plays being presented as part of The New School for Drama’s New Voices Playwrights Festival, which begins its two-week run on Wednesday, March 30, and continues until Saturday, April 9. Six original plays will be performed in repertory, highlighting the work of the graduating playwrights, directors, and actors.
