Eat Your Heart Out at the Union Square Greenmarket with The New School
The week of April 18, The New School shows off its green thumb by hosting two events at the Union Square Greenmarket:
On Wednesday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m., NSGS Food Studies director Fabio Parasecoli led New York City’s first college pop-up class. With the Greenmarket as his classroom, Professor Parasecoli conducted a unique cultural, historical, and environmental lesson in food’with the farmers as participating experts’as collective thoughts turn to spring produce, Easter dinners, and Passover recipes. At the end of the pop-up class, he offered up a Greenmarket recipe and answered questions. The class started by the statue of Gandhi at the south-west corner of Union Square.
On Friday, April 22, in observance of Earth Day, the newly developed Milano Sustainability Club will host a raw cooking class, with a focus on how to eat locally and seasonally on a budget. The demonstration will be followed by a picnic. The demonstration and lunch will be held at the Greenmarket at 1:00 p.m.
Update: Fabio’s pop-up class garnered some serious media coverage, which you can check out at The New York Times and NY1.
