Parsons Announces New Faculty Appointments

Parsons The New School for Design continues to grow its distinguished faculty, adding several new appointments across its five schools for the 2011-2012 academic year. The appointments, which reflect the breadth of design disciplines at Parsons, include:

Jonathan Bean (postdoctoral fellow, Design Studies), a PhD candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, whose research focuses on sustainable lifestyle, consumer psychology, and ethnography.

Christopher Csikszentmih√°lyi (distinguished visiting professor, Art and Design Research), co-founder and director of the MIT Center for Future Civic Media (C4).

Pascal Glissman (assistant professor, Communication Design) a media designer, artist, and scholar who founded the Studio Subcologne.

Francesca Granata (assistant professor, Fashion Studies), a fashion historian, curator, and founder of Fashion Projects, a print and digital journal concerned with experimental and sustainable fashion and its relation to greater visual culture.

Sara Kozlowski (assistant professor, Fashion Design), a design educator who specializes in concept development for collection and sustainable design.

Ezio Manzini (visiting professor, Design and Social Innovation), one of the world’s leading experts on sustainable design and the founder of DESIS, a network of design school and organizations dedicated to design in the service of innovation and sustainability.

Christina Moon (assistant professor, Fashion Studies), a recent postdoctoral fellow at the School of Art and Design History and Theory at Parsons, whose research focuses on urban anthropology and material culture.

Christian Schneider (associate professor, Strategic Management & Design), a program manager and the strategic design firm IDEO and author of Papewas ‘ Tales of Cultures, Innovation and Economies, which describes how strategic design can help generate economies in evolving countries.

Otto von Busch (assistant professor, Integrated Design), whose research explores the emergence of a new hacktivist, designer role in fashion, where designers strive to make participants become fashion-able.

Jason McCarthy (assistant professor, Fashion Design), a fashion design educator who has worked alongside renowned designers such as Zac Posen, Catherine Malandrino, and Christian Cota.
