Other Desert Cities, By Drama’s Baitz, Gets Raves in New York Times, and Everywhere Else
Rave reviews met the November 3rd Broadway premiere of Other Desert Cities, by Jon Robin Baitz, playwriting faculty, The New School for Drama. In a glowing review, The New York Times‘s Ben Brantley writes that Baitz’s work is built with gleaming dialogue, tantalizing hints of a dangerous mystery and a structural care that brings to mind the heyday of Lillian Hellman.,
Other Desert Cities tells the story of a family whose painful secrets are laid bare by their prodigal daughter’s memoir. The production not only benefits from an all-star cast that includes Rachel Griffiths, Judith Light, Stockard Channing and Stacey Keach, but the direction of Joe Mantello, who himself has a close connection to The New School for Drama, having served as 2010-2011 Artist-in-Residence.
