Empowerhouse Comes Home to Deanwood
This past week, after several weeks of planning and preparation, the Empowerhouse, the energy-efficient solar house developed for Habitat for Humanity by students at The New School and Stevens Institute of Technology, reached its final destination: the Deanwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It debuted on the National Mall as part of the Solar Decathlon 2011, where it won the Most Affordable category in the competition. Now the house will be expanded to become a two-family home for families selected by Habitat for Humanity; it is slated to be completed by late spring.
