Forever Young: New Schoolers Dominate 30 Under 30
What a way to end the year! New School alumni and students were well represented on the just-released Forbes 30 Under 30 Lists, a who’s who of emerging talent in art, design, entertainment, media, music, technology and more.
Capping a stellar year that included two star turns on Broadway, Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts grad Nina Arianda topped the Entertainment list. The actor (BA Liberal Arts ’06) is getting rave reviews for her starring role in David Ives’ Venus in Fur, now on stage at the Manhattan Theatre Club. Actor Jonah Hill, a student at The New School for Public Engagement, also made the Entertainment list. Lang also made a splash on the Food and Wine list courtesy of Jonathan Wingo (BA Liberal Arts’ 06), manager of Williamsburg whiskey boutique The Whiskey Shop.
Parsons The New School for Design was also well represented, with four names on the Art & Design list. They include artist Nina Chanel Abney (MFA Fine Arts ’08), the youngest artist featured in the recent exhibition 30 Americans, an important showcase of work by African-American artists; fashion designers Chris Benz (BFA Fashion Design ’04) and Alexander Wang (BFA Fashion Design), whose fashion-forward designs are coveted by fashionistas; and photographer Erik Madigan Heck (MFA Photography ’09), who has collaborated with everyone from the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Ballet to Valentino Couture and Rodarte.
