Drama directing faculty member Suli Holum was recently nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for Chimera, a piece she co-created with fellow directing faculty member Deborah Stein. The show premiered at HERE as part of the 2012 Under the Radar Festival. Chimera tells the story of a woman who discovers she is her own twin, exploring the medical phenomenon of an individual containing two different strains of DNA in one body.
We are thrilled to have been recognized by the Drama Desk Awards,, Hollum said of the honor. Deborah and I are continuing our collaboration, with new projects in development and a planned tour of Chimera, and this nomination will certainly raise awareness of and interest in our work.,
The Drama Desk Awards, which are given annually in a number of categories, are the only major New York theater honors for which productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway compete against each other in the same category. Formed in 1949 by a group of New York theater critics, editors, reporters, and publishers, the organization was born out of the desire to educate the community on vital issues concerning the theater.
