Playwright José Rivera to direct his play Brainpeople at The New School for Drama

José  Rivera, the Obie Award-winning playwright and Academy Award nominee (The Motorcycle Diaries) will move from the page to the director’s chair on May 29 and 30, when The New School for Drama hosts a workshop production of his play Brainpeople.

This special collaboration will run for three performances and features Drama alumni and current students working alongside other professionals.

Brainpeople tells the story of a wealthy woman who invites two strangers to join her in a strange feast commemorating the death of her parents. She has done this every year but her dark purpose remains unclear. All that will change tonight when two damaged souls find their way to her table.

Facilitated by Sherri Eden Barber ’09, who also serves assistant director, Zoe Anastassiou ’07, Greg Carere ‘13, and Amanda Joshi, the play stars Sona Tatoyan† as Ani, Dana Eskelson† as Rosemary, and Vaishnavi Sharma ’08 as Mayannah.
