Introducing MACE (Mannes American Composers Ensemble)
This season will see the introduction of MACE (The Mannes American Composers Ensemble), a newly formed large ensemble that will focus on the music of living American composers, directed and conducted by newly appointed Mannes faculty member, composer Lowell Lieberman.
Their first free concert will take place on Wednesday, October 3, at 8:00 p.m. in Tishman Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street. The program will include: Michael Daughertys Snap! and Blue Like An Orange (1987); Paul Moravecs Capital Unknowns (2004); Derek Bermels Continental Divide (1996); Pierre Jalberts Transcendental Windows (1999); and Miguel Del Aguilas Conga Line In Hell (1994).
MACE not only presents works by iconic American masters such as John Adams and Elliott Carter, but will also present cutting-edge works by up and coming composers. The ensemble aims to embrace as broad a view possible of the incredibly diverse and vital landscape of contemporary American Music. Other composers programmed include Mannes alumna Shulamit Ran, Michael Daugherty, David Del Tredici, Pierre Jalbert, Mason Bates, Andrew Norman, and Mannes 2012-2013 Composer-In-Residence Derek Bermel.
