Bridging The Divide: Israeli and Palestinian Activists from OneVoice

On Wednesday, October 10, at 12:00 p.m. in the Hirshon Suite, 55 West 13th Street, room 205, the Co-Existence Initiative at The New School for Public Engagement & Global Studies will present “Bridging The Divide: Israeli and Palestinian Activists from OneVoice.”

Negotiations between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority have been stalled for years. With no plans on the horizon to renew negotiations towards a final settlement, grassroots voices must fill the void of silence and stagnation between these two peoples. At this event we will hear from Israeli and Palestinian grassroots activists about their struggle to end the conflict and how you can take part.

Moderated by Dr. Warren Spielberg, part time associate professor at The New School for Public Engagement, and member of Al Quds University, West Bank, who is also the director of the Co-Existence Initiative at The New School.

Speakers include:

  • Amro Brighith, a OneVoice Palestine member from Beit Ummar, near Nablus.
  • Or Kaner, a OneVoice Israel member from Shoham.

Amro Brighith, now 22, was only 20 when he joined OneVoice Palestine. Even at a young age, he knew that OneVoice was the organization in which he could be a leader in working to end the occupation and achieve the two-state solution for his society. In addition to being an active volunteer with OneVoice, Amro, who is from Beit Ummar, is studying for a degree in Business Administration from Birzeit University.

Or Kaner joined OneVoice Israel one year ago due to its unique structure that makes students the leaders in designing and carrying out activism to achieve the two-state solution.  Or, 26, completed a BA in film from Sapir College and is currently studying for an MA in Political Science and International Relations at Hebrew University. He currently serves as a project manager at the Israel Association of Community Centers and previously worked at Perach, where he managed mentors and tutors.

One Voice is an international mainstream grassroots movement, with offices in Tel Aviv, Ramallah, Gaza, New York, and London, that aims to amplify the voice of Israeli and Palestinian moderates, empowering them to seize back the agenda for conflict resolution and demand their leaders achieve a two-state solution.
