Alexander Wang named creative director of Balenciaga
Alexander Wang, who studied in Parsons’ BFA Fashion Design program, has been named the new creative director of Balenciaga. Wang, only 28, replaces Nicolas Ghesquière, who has been leading the brand for the past 15 years.
Wang launched his own label in 2007, shortly after leaving Parsons. He has found wide commercial and critical success with his slouchy, youthful designs. He follows in the footsteps of other successful alumni like Marc Jacobs, creative director of Louis Vuitton, Donna Karan, Derek Lam, Isaac Mizrahi, Tracy Reese, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez and Anna Sui, and many more. Balenciaga was founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga in 1918.
