Every year at commencement The New School community honors individuals whose accomplishments embody the university’s Mission and Vision. The roster of past honorees reads like a guest list to the world’s best (and weirdest) dinner party: German president Angela Merkel, US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, rocker and artist Laurie Anderson, philosopher (and, naturally, New School founder) John Dewey, and scores more.

So who will don the robes at 2014 commencement on May 23? It’s up to you: students, faculty and staff can share their nominations for honorary degree recipients by sending an email to honorees@newschool.edu by Friday, November 15, 2013. In your email, please include a biographical profile of your nominee, and a brief explanation of what makes him or her an outstanding illustration of The New School and its values. A selection committee composed of students, faculty, trustees, and administrators will review nominations and present a list of candidates to the Board of Trustees for approval, and final honorees will be announced in the spring.
