Journalism Meets Design

For years now, media pundits have offered varying opinions on the state of the Fourth Estate ranging from “traditional journalism is dead!” to “there’s never been a more exciting time to be a journalist!”
Amidst this uncertainty, Eugene Lang College assistant professor of journalism Heather Chaplin, with the help of Parsons design professor Irwin Chen, has devised an innovative solution to the industry’s current issues. It’s called Journalism+Design, an experimental, human-centered approach that uses design tactics and design thinking as a framework for how to tell the stories the public is not only clamoring for, but also needs.
Chaplin joined Research Radio this month to discuss the fear, excitement, and hope she feels for the new program.
