Tatiana Serafin, MFA ’15, has been awarded a Front Page Award by the Newswomen’s Club of New York. Serafin is receiving the award in the Online-Blog category for her series of articles forForbes.com on Ukrainian politics. A nonfiction student in the MFA Creative Writing Program at The New School, Serafin has also been selected as a Riggio Teaching Assistant for Spring 2015, where she’ll work with New York Times writer Sam Tanenhaus on his Political Journalism course.

Of her reporting, and receiving the Front Page Award, Serafin says:

It is almost a year since the first protestors stepped onto Kiev’s Maidan to protest ex-President Yanukovich’s pro-Russian policies, a year in which many have died fighting to keep Ukraine independent, a year in which Ukrainians around the world have mobilized to promote the Ukrainian cause and gather humanitarian funds. The story is not over. I am honored and proud to have been able to create a forum of news sharing and analysis on Forbes and for this work to have been recognized by the Newswomen’s Club of New York. Many of the ideas flowed out of my writing here at The New School. I am so grateful to have the support of so many wonderful writer’s launching pads!

The Newswomen’s Club of New York, established in 1922, is the only professional organization in the New York area dedicated to supporting newswomen. The Front Page Awards, established in 1938, help the Club fulfill its mission to promote exceptional work by women in the news business, provide networking opportunities, and support the highest standards of journalism.

The 2014 Front Page Awards will be presented at a black tie gala on Thursday, November 13, at the Down Town Association in Manhattan.
