Thomas Piketty at The New School

Those who have yet to check Capital in the Twenty-First Century off of their reading lists are in luck. The New School for Social Research’s Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis invited French economist, Thomas Piketty to speak at The New School last week, and the sold-out lecture is now available online.

Based at the Paris School of Economics, Piketty investigates wealth and income inequality. His nearly 700-page tome, which examines how capitalism has created a sharp divergence between social classes over the last century, and threatens to generate extreme inequalities going forward, topped the New York Times bestseller list this summer.

Following Piketty’s remarks, economics professor Anwar Shaikh, and NSSR alumna Heather Boushey each shared their own comments and joined Piketty for a panel discussion.
