Wanted: Designers Who Problem Solve
Sir James Dyson, chief engineer at Dyson, is looking for designers “who have an idea that solves a problem.”
Have anything in mind?
Student designers are invited to enter their idea to The James Dyson Award, an international design award with a top prize of $45,000 (additional prizes include $7,500 for international runners up and $3,500 for national winners).
Winning entries have included a sustainable urban freight vehicle, an inflatable baby incubator and a floating river cleaner.
“We’re looking for designers who think differently to create products that work better,” according to the contest website. “Engineers who follow an iterative design process. Rough and ready prototypes. Products that have a significant and practical purpose, are commercially viable, and are designed with sustainability in mind.”
