School of Media Studies Hosts Spring Exhibitions

Spring has arrived and The School of Media Studies is abuzz with activity.

In the coming weeks, the school will host two exhibitions of student work: Mixed Messages, an annual exhibition of outstanding creative work by graduate students in The School of Media Studies; and Fine Cuts: 36th Annual Invitational Film Show, a series of short film screenings produced by students over the past year.

Mixed Messages opens with a reception on Friday, April 17 at 7:00 pm and will be on view through April 27; Fine Cuts: 36th Annual Invitational Film Show will be held April 24.

“Spring is the time of year the School of Media Studies Graduate Program shares some of the most exciting student work from the past year in film, video, web, sound and multimedia,” said Anne Balsamo, School of Media Studies dean. “This year’s collection of experimental, documentary and narrative projects exemplifies the creative best of our students.”

Selected by a panel of distinguished jurors, Mixed Messages projects include interactive sound and video installations, as well as web-based work. This year’s showcase will be exhibited at the IMC Lab + Gallery at 56 W 22nd Street.

A week later, the school will host Fine Cuts: 36th Annual Invitational Film Show in the Auditorium at 66 West 12th Street. Ten student works will be featured—spanning multiple genres and production techniques—followed by a faculty-led Q&A with the producers, a public reception for students, guests and faculty, and an award presentation for best film as chosen by the audience.
