Xizhu Liang, Mannes ’21, Wins Yamaha Young Artists Performing Competition

Every year, thousands of music students across the country compete in the prestigious Yamaha Young Performing Arts competition. Winners are recognized from the world of classical, jazz and contemporary music, and receive a once in a lifetime performance opportunity, national press coverage, a recording and photos of their live performance, and participate in workshops designed to launch a professional music career.

For Xizhu Liang, Mannes ‘21, every music competition she enters provides increased motivation to practice, and the ability to learn from her fellow musicians.

“It’s a great honor to be selected as one of the winners of YYPA 2020,” says Liang. “This award brings me encouragement to keep striving on the path of being a good pianist.”

Liang notes that Mannes has helped her build a solid foundation as a musician thanks to the top-tier faculty and musical equipment, in addition to the supportive environment of the school. She plans to pursue a master’s degree after graduation in order to continue improving her performance skills, and develop further as a musician.
