Forbes “30 Under 30” List of Changemakers Includes Parsons Alumni
Every year, bold innovators in a wide range of industries are celebrated for their achievements by the Forbes “30 Under 30” list. Alumni from throughout The New School and Parsons School of Design regularly appear in various categories, and this year is no exception, as Wei Hung Chen, BFA Fashion Design ‘16, Akua Shabaka, BBA Strategic Design and Management ‘19, and Rahm Bowen, BFA Integrated Design ’18, were all selected for the “Art and Style” category.
Wei Hung Chen was selected for his research series focused on eliminating fashion waste. Chen, who has been featured in Vogue, was also a finalist for the 2016 Kering “Empowering Imagination” competition in partnership with Parsons.
Akua Shabaka was selected for her work as a fashion designer. According to Forbes, Shabaka started the “fashion label House of Aama with her mother to explore the Black experience through history and storytelling.” House of Aama won the prestigious 2021 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award for their collection of hoodies, totes, and t-shirts.
Rahm Bowen, who works under the moniker “Rahmbow” was selected for their art, which centers on personal identity, culture, nature and dreams. According to Forbes, “Bowen’s portraiture investigates a range of color combinations and facial constructions that make up Black skin.”
