New School Faculty’s Short Film, “Menstrual Rosary,” Wins Big on the Festival Circuit
The whimsical short film Menstrual Rosary, created by a collaborative group of New School faculty, has been a big success on the 2022 festival circuit. With a score by Stefania de Kenessey, Professor Emeritus of The Arts and Contemporary Music; lyrics by Chiara Bottici, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Director of Gender and Sexuality Studies Institute, and Vanessa Place; directed by Cecilia Rubino, Associate Professor of Theater; and edited by Anomie Williams; this performance piece has accumulated more than 13 citations and awards worldwide.
Commissioned for the launch of The New School’s Gender and Sexuality Studies Institute in 2021, the piece has now screened at an array of festivals including the LGBTQ Unbordered Festival; the Hong Kong, London, Paris, Milan and San Francisco Short Film Festivals; the Rotterdam Independent Film Festival; the Madrid Arthouse Film Festival; and the Dublin World Film Festival.
