Media Studies Alumni Earn Webby Nominations for Their Documentary Saturday in the Park

Media Studies alums Paola Piers-Torres and Tara Kutz have recently been nominated for The Webby Awards for their documentary Saturday in the Park. The film tells the story of Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, which, though not as famous as its Manhattan cousin Central Park, is a vital part of life both in the surrounding neighborhoods and far beyond them. Narrated by award-winning actor Steve Buscemi, Saturday in the Park takes viewers around this Brooklyn sanctuary to meet some of the 8 million park visitors who consider the park their backyard, their favorite hangout, their refuge and their salvation.

The film, directed by Kutz and produced by both Piers-Torres and Kutz in partnership with REI Co-op, has recently been nominated for The Webby Awards in the Video category and The Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted on by the public. Presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS),  the awards honor excellence on the Internet including websites and mobile sites; video; advertising; media & PR; apps & software; social; podcasts; games and AI, metaverse and virtual. This year, the Webby Awards received nearly 13,000 entries from all 50 states and over 70 countries.
Voting for the People’s Voice Award is open now through Thursday, April 18, 2024. Click here to vote for Saturday in the Park.
