Parsons Interior Design Program Featured in Exhibition at New York Port Authority

For the past two months, the halls of the New York Port Authority have been filled with tourists and commuters hustling to reach their destinations via the many transportation options available at one of the city’s busiest hubs. The iconic midtown space has also been home to an exhibition featuring the work of top interior design students from 8 of the best interior design programs in New York, including students from the School of Constructed Environments at Parsons School of Design.

The exhibit, “Paths to Professionalism,” was presented by New York Eleven Plus, an organization committed to promoting the transformative power of interior design and raising awareness of the profession itself. This year’s exhibit delved into the multifaceted and complex journey of senior students as they establish themselves as professional interior designers, and features work from students at leading institutions including the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT SUNY),  New York Institute of Technology, New York School of Interior Design (NYSID), Pratt Institute, Rochester University, School of Visual Arts (SVA), and Villa Maria College.

“We hope that visitors leave the exhibit curious and empowered by the unique perspective of the work produced,” shares Carly Cannell, BFA Interior Design Program Director. “The carefully curated projects involved countless hours and days by our students and it is a great honor to have their work displayed in a lively, public area of the city. The impact that interior design has left on our program is saturated in pride and we are excited to share that passion with the local New York City community.”

Students were selected from all three of the Interior Design programs at Parsons, where their work on display reflects the Parsons mission and mentality of inclusivity, ingenuity, and innovation.

“The work that was selected embodies the main motive of the NY11+ partnership: where the work of interior design students educates the public on the benefits and potential of studying and practicing interior design,” further explains Cannell. “Inspiring and sharing what we are creating is crucial in growing to be the best versions of ourselves here at Parsons. The simple act of showing up is a small way we can learn from each other and show the creative community of New York City that they too, can be creative.”
