New School Faculty and Staff Support Antigua and Barbuda Installation at International La Biennale di Venezia Architecture

At this summer’s La Biennale Architectura, the country of Antigua and Barbuda hosted its first-ever National Pavilion — an installation exploring environmental justice as a civil right.

Supporting the installation and serving as co-sponsors was none other than The New School’s Tishman Environment and Design Center and Parsons School if Design, which served as sponsors and collaborators of the exhibition.

Curated by New School and Tishman visiting scholar Barbara Paca, the pavilion was an investigation into the acute crisis of climate change facing Antigua and Barbuda. It explored cutting edge sustainability and unique partnerships in the rebuilding of the country, including expanding its Botanical Gardens and restoring its Government House.

Additionally, the Tishman Center and Parsons School of Design helped design a catalogue for the installation, to which Khrushcheva and DePass contributed chapters, and the Tishman Center participated in the youth education project. Molly Craft Johnson, MS Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management ’15, assistant director of the Tishman Environment and Design Center; Nina Khrushcheva, professor of international affairs in the Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs In International Affairs; and Michelle DePass, former director of the Tishman Center and dean of Milano all served as “educational coordinators” for the youth education project.
