Academically Adrift: Author to Speak about Higher Education in the United States
Are we academically adrift? A provocative new book by Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa, Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses, has provoked much debate about the state of American higher education today. Are today’s college students academically adrift,, under-prepared in critical thinking and complex reasoning? Has the mission of higher education been compromised by other agendas? Are colleges and universities in the United States in need of fundamental reform?
On March 30, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., in the Theresa Lang Community and Student Center, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, 2nd floor, hear from one of the authors, Richard Arum, professor of Sociology and Education, New York University, and join the debate.
This program which is open to all members of the New School community is sponsored by the Office of the Provost as a way to engage the community in critical conversations about higher education models and standards as The New School prepares for the 2011’2012 self-study component of our accreditation review by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
