Parsons Launches Afro-Futurism Seminar
The School of Art, Media and Technology (AMT) at Parsons The New School for Design was recently awarded a grant from the Robert Lehman Foundation to create an interdisciplinary seminar on Afro-Futurism. The grant was given to the Intermedia Initiative at AMT, directed by Coco Fusco, which brings together faculty, visiting artists and scholars to explore developments in new media.
The grant will allow internationally renowned guest artists and scholars to give free public lectures at The New School in fall 2011. The confirmed guests to date include: artist Julie Mehretu, artist and cultural theorist Kodwo Eshun, composer and scholar George Lewis, sociology professor Alondra Nelson, and filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu.
