
School of Drama Faculty and Alumni Earn Variety of Nominations for Bold, Original Theater
Every year, the Tony, Drama Desk, and Drama League awards recognize the best theatre happening in New York City. As one of the top schools for theater artists in the country, the School of Drama community is often acknowledged thanks to the extraordinary work of faculty and alumni.
This year is no exception, which includes nominations in the below categories for faculty and alumni.
Marjan Neshat, School of Drama faculty member, was nominated for the Tony award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her role in “English.” The show, which also features Hadi Tabbal, Drama ‘07, also picked up a Tony nomination for Best Play.
In addition to her Tony nomination, Neshat earned a Drama League nomination for Distinguished Performance. The Drama League also nominated “English” for Outstanding Production of a Play.
“Cymbeline,” by Andrea Thome, picked up a Drama Desk nomination for Best Adaptation. The show was directed by Stephen Brown Fried, a faculty member and Vice Dean for Curriculum and Learning at the College of Performing Arts.
Adrienne C. Moore, Drama ’09, also earned a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play for her role in Lincoln Center’s “The Blood Quilt.”
The Drama League nominated “Good Night, and Good Luck” for Outstanding Production of a Play. The new show stars George Clooney, and features Drama faculty member Jennifer Morris.
The Tony honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be presented to New 42. The School of Drama has an ongoing partnership with New Victory Theater, New York City’s premier theater for young audiences, which is housed within New 42.
“The Wind and the Rain: A story about Sunny’s Bar” was written by Drama faculty member Sarah Gancher, and received a Drama Desk nomination for Unique Theatrical Experience.
