Sign of the Times: Lang Faculty Featured In the Grey Lady
Choreographers in the dance program were among the many Lang faculty members recently featured in The New York Times.
It’s been a big media month for the faculty of Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts. On September 29, Siddhartha Deb, assistant professor of Writing, penned a New York Times op-ed about cars, culture and globalization, Behind the Wheel, Moving Up., The piece weaves together Deb’s observations of car culture as an indicator of broader cultural changes in his native India, namely how the car had suddenly become emblematic of a new India that hoped to model itself on the United States, especially in the individualism, speed and liberation promised by the open road.,
On October 6, Lang dance faculty were featured in Choreographing as Fast as They Can,, a story about A Prize Every Time,, a recent dance event in which teams of choreographers create a piece in twenty minutes, teach it to a group of performers, and debut it on the spot for a live crowd. Dance faculty member Neil Greenberg, guest choreographer Keely Garfield, and K.J. Homes, who is slated to teach the course Contact Improvisations this Spring, were all featured in the performance and the story.
