Drama Alumni Come Home
On October 12, The New School for Drama held its inaugural homecoming alumni reunion event, welcoming more than 60 alumni, with each graduating class represented.
The event included a reception at the Drama building, and a special, final dress rehearsal of the Drama students’ production of Shakespeare’s Henry VI.
The addition of the performance made the event not only a reunion, but also created a connection to the current students who will soon become our alums’ colleagues,, said Robert Hoyt, director of professional development.
For attendee Rachel Cornish ’08, the evening was indeed all about connection. After seeing the rehearsal, chatting with the alums, Pippin Parker, and so many other familiar faces, both faculty and friends, I feel even more proud to be an alumni of The New School for Drama and even more motivated to make all of you as equally proud of me,, says Cornish.
Many who attended the event not only continue to find work in the performing arts community, but have created their own companies and organizations in the industry as well.
I believe much of that credit has to go to the encouragement we received while at The New School,, Cornish says. We were often pushed and challenged to create innovative art through very little, and many of us have been able to utilize those skills in the professional world.,
The event was hosted by Drama, the Drama Alumni Alliance, and honorary co-chairs Holly Lynn Ellis ’04 and Mark Cajigao ’08. In addition to opening remarks by the co-chairs, new program director Pippin Parker also welcomed the alumni home.
