Bailing Out Americans What Can Corporations Do Now?

Coming out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, many Americans have supported a heightened role for the government in restoring economic growth. But for a return to prosperity, Americans will have to rely on investments in innovation and job creation by non-financial corporations. On April 22-23, The Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis is holding a two-day conference to discuss the role of corporations in an economic comeback.

Conference participants, experts from industry, academia, government, and organized labor, will review companies’ investment behaviors before the crisis of 2008, how they responded, and how they can contribute to a new economy. Through an open-discussion format, participants will talk about the need for a new industrial policy that serves American workers, promotes socially-useful technologies and environmental sustainability, reverses financialization,, and reforms executive pay to reward innovation and job creation. Panels moderators include journalists Katrina vanden Heuvel of The Nation and Devin Leonard and Louis Uchitelle of the New York Times.
