Auditorium Rises at University Center
Walking past the corner of 14th Street and Fifth Avenue, you cannot miss it: the University Center, The New School’s new focal point, is rising by the day. With its foundation completed in late 2011, construction crews are now erecting the building’s skeleton, which as of the January 2012 is reaching three stories. In addition, the structural elements of certain interior features are now also visible from the street, including the 12-foot-high supports for the building’s 800-seat auditorium.
With construction moving steadily ahead, the 16-story University Center is on target to open to students in Fall 2013. The Roger Duffy-designed building will boast a 600-bed student residence, fully wired smart, classrooms, a two-level library, and state-of-the-art design studios.
