The Vagina Monologues at The New School
On Saturday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. New School students will participate in the V-Day movement with a performance of The Vagina Monologues to be held in Tishman Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street.
Originally written by playwright Eve Ensler in 1995, The Vagina Monologues is based on a moving interview Ensler had with a woman. The monologues portray vastly different experiences and perspectives, and touch on themes of domestic violence, sexual assault, sex workers, hair, sexual pleasure, global sexual traumas, and more.
Since 1995 The Vagina Monologues has grown into a global movement called V-Day. This year 5,400 V-Day events are taking place in 54 different countries and in all 50 of the United States. V-Day at the New School will donate the proceeds from every production to the women and girls of Haiti as well as two local organizations: Dwa Fanm and Right Rides.
V-Day events continue on Saturday April 21, with a performance of Let Me Remember, a collaborative, multi-media performance written by current students at The New School, which hopes to combat rape culture and gendered violence. Each segment was written in an effort to address the urgency that surrounds sexual assault and reject the culture that perpetuates it. Let Me Remember speaks from multiple different perspectives about these issues and joins the conversation surrounding them to bring about change.
Tickets which are $5 for students; $7 for non-students; $8 for students buying tickets to both shows; $10 for non-students buying tickets to both shows, may be purchased online at http://tinyurl.com/newschoolvday and picked up on the day of the performance. All major credit cards are accepted online and cash sales will take place the day of the performance beginning at 6:00 p.m.
