New School Jazz Faculty Member Mixes It Up in Europe and the Middle East

Armen Donelian, pianist and New School Jazz faculty member, will be mixing it up in Europe and the Middle East during February and March. A tour that features solo piano concerts, trio and quartet performances, and master classes will take Donelian to Austria, Switzerland, Palestine, and Israel. This follows Donelian’s 2009 Fulbright Senior Specialist/Resident Guest Lecturer in Jazz Studies at the Ionian University in Corfu, Greece.

Armen Donelian who has been called A pianist with a crystalline touch, but a penchant for avant gardism, by the New York Times, has performed and recorded since 1975 as a featured solo pianist, leader of his own quintet and trio, and with Jazz legends including Sonny Rollins, Chet Baker, Paquito D’Rivera, Mongo Santamaria, and Billy Harper. He is the composer of more than 90 works, and has produced 11 critically acclaimed recordings, the most recent being Oasis, a trio date with bassist David Clark and drummer George Schuller. He has received six jazz performance fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts for concerts and master classes.
