Drama Presents Shakespeare’s As You Like It and The Tragedy of Macbeth
The New School for Drama presents William Shakespeare’s As You Like It and The Tragedy of Macbeth as part of the Classics Studio Series, featuring Drama’s second-year acting students. The productions were developed and rehearsed as part of the students’ Classical Technique classes and will be assisted by the second-year directing students, who are also studying directing classical theater works.
“These types of performances enable our students to get to the heart of classical theater work,” said Drama Program Director Pippin Parker. “They work in an organic fashion and it serves as an excellent training tool when working with classic text, and will be an excellent bridge to their professional work.”
As You Like It, directed by Stephen Fried, will run May 2-4; Casey Biggs directs The Tragedy of Macbeth, which runs May 9-11. All performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m., with a Saturday matinee at 3:00 p.m., at The New School for Drama Theater, 151 Bank Street, third floor. Admission is free, but reservations are recommended; please call Ticket Central at 212.279.4200 or visit www.ticketcentral.com.
