Fashion Displaced

The one-day symposium organized by the Parsons Paris Anthropo Design Research Lab and Fashioning Theory Research Lab, together with the Séminaire d’Anthropologie des Mondes de la Mode of EHESS, has addressed a number of issues related to displacement and the cultural circulations that contribute to the regeneration of the contemporary transnational systems of fashion.

The event was hosted by the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac thanks to the generous contribution of the Department of Research and Higher Education of the museum.
Guest speakers from Italy, Germany, Lebanon and France have discussed the renewal of fashion imaginaries and practices in various areas of the world. The global circulation of commodities, individuals, images and aesthetics has been questioned through the productions, uses and representations within and outside the hegemonic systems of fashion.
The symposium has unveiled the interwoven forces of localism and globalism in a variety of approaches at the crossroads of academic research and field experiences.
