Parsons Paris

Graduating Student, Pamela Arellano Zameza

My name is Pamela Arellano Zameza I’m from North Carolina in the US but I was born in Veracruz, Mexico. I am a second year Masters student in the History of Design and Curatorial studies program. I’ve chosen to do the masters exam which is on the topic of 20th century European furniture and minor topic is on design and performance.

Having a background in art history, design has been a new field for me but has nonetheless been very interesting. Emmanuel Guy, our program director has taught us how to think critically and independently which is what I value most about Parsons. After graduation I will be staying in Paris for a summer internship at Musée d’Orsay.

I’m really excited for this opportunity as I have always dreamt about working at an art museum in Paris! My advice for new students is to keep an open mind, discover new places and knowledge, get out there and meet new people and make connections.

Even if you don’t speak French just try to immerse yourself in social settings that may seem uncomfortable at first. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ve learned after a year! Also while being in Europe and while you’re not in class or studying take advantage of traveling to other nearby countries! I will definitely miss the creative environment at Parsons.

I’ve met a lot of talented and intelligent individuals since coming to the school in 2017. I hope Parsons continues to grow and I hope to visit exhibitions ran by the HDCS program in the future!
