Where is your internship? Who is it for? What is the company known for?
Alaïa Foundation. Fashion Couture House and now also Foundation.
What are your roles within the position?
Map, control and catalogue the Alaïa’s magazine collection, creating a visual and textual documentation.
How long is your internship? What are you hoping to learn during this time?
Six months. As much as I can about the processes of creating a printed material archive within a fashion house.
What is the coolest/ most intriguing part of your internship?
To get access to historical printed materials. As well as to have a closer understanding of the relevance of collecting printed material and how it becomes part of a fashion archive.
How did you find and secure the internship? What was the process? What was ideal within your resume for the position?
Marco Pecorari, director of the Fashion Studies MA shared a call for two internships in the Alaïa Foundation. To apply we had to send our CV and a motivation letter. French was indispensable to get the position, which I believe made me a strong candidate as well as the fact that my masters thesis is directly relate to collecting printed material and I made this explicit on my motivation letter.
What advice would you give to others looking for an internship at this company or in this industry?
For me, the motivation letter was an useful tool to explain why I was interested in the position and how I could be useful for the foundation even though I had no prior experience in the field
