Visit from Ono Project founder, Maria Tverdokhelb
On the 18th of September, Maria Tverdokhelb, founder and designer of the Ono Project came to Parsons Paris to speak with our first year ‘Business of Fashion’ class, taught by Geraldine Blanche.
In this class, Maria discussed the need for sustainability within the fashion industry and how sustainability is subjective to the individual or singular business. She also discussed the environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts of a lack of sustainability present within current society. The Ono Project’s purpose is to research, develop and integrate sustainability into creative fashion processes, including textile and garment production. Further, to create garments that are a part of a ‘human-nature life organism’, rather than creating garments for an ephemeral trend.
During her presentation, Maria stressed the importance of high-quality textiles and how the luxury sphere is not only authentic and high-end design, but also an opportunity to create and to buy pieces that are sustainable and correspond to the values of the individual.
Thank you Maria Tverdokhelb! For this very informative and engaging presentation.
