Parsons Paris

Career Services: January Highlights

Parsons Paris re-opened on January 20th- the time that Paris hosted Fashion Week for Menswear and Haute Couture. Students took full advantage of the plethora of amazing opportunities that Fashion Week presents: 20 students participated in internships (Malone Souliers, Oscar de la Renta, TIBI, Zimmermann, etc) and others worked with runway and press photography, showrooms, and backstage at shows.

Parsons Paris was also honoured to provide 20 students who showed motivation, passion, and ability to work under pressure, with the unique opportunity to work at the last Fashion Show of Monsieur Jean Paul Gaultier. The iconic show was held on Wednesday, January 22nd, from 6pm- 12am, at the Théâtre du Châtelet. Around a 100 models were present to dress up, including top international models- the atmosphere was charged with nostalgia and excitement.

On Thursday, January 23rd, Parsons Paris hosted “An evening with the New School” for which school alumni were invited at the Westin. A guest speaker and alum, Alex Levin (BBA Strategic Design & Management ’11), who is the Founding Partner & Strategy Director of L+R, was there to speak about Design, Tech, and Luxury. 40 people (including our dean, alumni, faculty and staff from NYC)  got together, from 7 to 9pm)

Around 20 students had newly arrived on campus in January, for a semester abroad at Parsons Paris! The students had come from our main campus in NYC, and also from partner universities, such as Columbia and Cornell University. So, on January 29th, we had an info session with these Mobility & Visiting students called “How to find an internship in Paris.”

On January 30th, we offered an info session called “How to find an internship in Paris” for all students. The very first step to finding an internship in France is to sign up on our Job Board (JobTeaser), and uploading your resume. During the session, we talked about all the different steps to undertake before starting the internship, too. The importance of having a great resume, personalised cover letters, and authentic Linkedin profiles were expounded upon. These sessions aim to help students have a great learning experience in Paris.

On January 31st, we had a new workshop to offer: “Get ready for Paris Fashion Week.” The next Paris Fashion Week dates are from February 24th – March 3rd, 2020 (Fall-Winter 20/21).

During Fashion Week, a hundred shows and events will take place at different venues throughout the city of Paris. The range of exciting positions in fashion match all Parsons Paris programs and are open for our students, spanning styling jobs, sales jobs, management jobs, PR jobs, production jobs and many other fashion vacancies. These opportunities are great learning experiences and make for valuable additions to students’ resumes.

In order to plan, organise oneself, and work during the Fashion Week, many skills need to be developed as the tasks are very diverse- this workshop provided and explained the necessary steps to score an internship during Paris Fashion Week.

There are many workshops and events to look forward to in the coming month of February: The CEO (Club of Entrepreneur Organisation) event, the “Build your authentic pitch” workshop, a Linkedin workshop, and of course, Paris Fashion Week, and other events that can help students intern during Paris Fashion Week. We advise you to sign up on JobTeaser, keep a look out for these opportunities, and start taking action to achieve your career goals.
