Student Success

Welcome, Narwhals, to the Spring Semester!

A message from: Robert Mack, Vice Provost for Student Success and Engagement

Dear Students,

Welcome to a new semester at The New School! It’s been chilly here in New York City lately, so I hope you’re all staying warm. Over the New Year, I was able to escape the cold weather and spend some time with my family in Puerto Rico. The sunshine, relaxing beaches, and quality time with loved ones were just what I needed to recharge. I hope your break was also restorative, giving you the chance to connect, reflect, and prepare for the semester ahead.

As we embark on this new year, it’s impossible to ignore what’s happening in the world around us. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in California. At the same time, as Provost White shared in her recent message, a new presidential administration brings significant challenges to “democratic norms, citizenship and immigrant rights, gender identity, trans rights, DEI programs, and the environment, among others.” These shifts affect many in our community, particularly those who are already vulnerable.

I want to affirm our unwavering support for all members of our community. Together with senior leadership, Student Success remains committed to our mission to foster a sense of belonging and help you succeed in an ever-changing world. Whether it’s your first semester or your last before graduation, I’m so glad you’re here. You are what makes The New School a truly unique and vibrant place.
