Student Health Services at The New School

A message from Tracy Robin, Associate Provost for Student Health Servies

Dear Students,

Our staff at Student Health Services (SHS) is here to support you this spring semester with a variety of free health and wellness services. Below, you’ll find important resources and programs that are available to you.

National College Health Assessment (NCHA) – February 12 – March 7, 2025

You will receive a link in your New School email inviting you to take this important health survey. We encourage everyone to complete the survey to impact health and wellness services on campus. By completing the survey, you will be entered into a raffle to win Air Pod Pros, an iPad, and other great prizes. All survey responses are absolutely confidential. More information about the survey will be shared soon.

Student Health Insurance Plan

New spring 2025 students must fill out an enrollment form or waiver form for the university insurance plan by February 10, 2025. Those who do not submit a waiver will be automatically enrolled after this date. Once enrolled, students on the university’s health plan can explore the Aetna Student Health site to find local in-network providers.

Required Immunizations

New spring 2025 students must complete the university’s immunization requirements. Students can upload their immunization records, complete the Meningococcal Response Form, and check the status of their immunization submissions in the SHS Portal. Students who do not meet these requirements will have immunization holds placed on their accounts in early March. This hold will prevent summer and fall class registration.

Join a Counseling Group for Support & Community

SHS offers free groups for students starting the week of February 3. These groups meet weekly during the semester. To sign up for one of the groups, please use this registration form. You can also visit the SHS Portal to sign up for a pre-screen to learn more. Groups include:

  • Acupuncture
  • Social Confidence Building
  • DBT Skills
  • Chronic Illness – Integrative Wellbeing
  • Eating & Body
  • Graduate Students
  • Family Challenge and Self-Discovery
  • Good Grief
  • Dating Safety

New Recovery is a weekly Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step Group on campus that meets every Wednesday, 6:00-7:00 p.m., at 80 Fifth Avenue, 3rd floor, all year. This is an initiative started by New School community members.

Check out Togetherall, a free, confidential, and anonymous online community offering 24/7 peer-to-peer mental health support.

Medical Care

You can schedule same-day appointments for urgent medical concerns, as well as routine check-ups through the SHS portal or by calling 212.229.1671. Appointments are available in person and by telehealth for your convenience. Our services include:

Wellness and Health Promotion (WHP)

Students are encouraged to visit both SHS and the Wellness Corner at 39 West 13th Street, 2nd floor, to pick up all kinds of health and wellness supplies, including safer sex materials, Naloxone, fentanyl testing strips, and masks. On Tuesdays, 12:00-1:00 p.m., we also have Wellness Tabling at different locations throughout the university where Peer Health Advocates, who are student health ambassadors, can answer any questions and provide wellness materials. You can also reach out to WHP for individual health counseling and group workshops on different public health topics, including Covid-19, harm reduction, sex & body positivity, and self-care.

‌If you have any questions about these resources, please email shs@newschool.edu. We wish you a healthy and safe spring semester.
