Deadline Extended: 2025-2026 Student Trustee Application and Nominations

Dear New School Community,

We hope your week is off to a good start. As we continue our planning for the fall, The New School Board of Trustees is still seeking one (1) undergraduate and one (1) graduate student to serve a one-year term on the Board of Trustees in a voting role. The Student Trustees provide an important student voice and perspective, offering feedback to the Board of Trustees on university initiatives, the campus climate, inclusivity, and other topics. If you are interested in becoming a Student Trustee for the 2025-2026 academic year, please read the information below and submit an application by April 4, 2025, 11:59 p.m. EDT. 

The Student Trustee term runs from September 2025 through May 2026, and Student Trustees must attend all four (4) board meetings during the following months: 

  • September
  • December
  • February/March
  • May

Specific dates will be shared in advance of the fall 2025 semester. Additionally, the new Student Trustees will be invited to a short meet-and-greet during the final spring 2025 Board of Trustees meeting in May.

Criteria

Students interested in applying for the Student Trustee position must meet the following criteria:

  • An undergraduate student must be a rising sophomore or junior when nominated
  • A graduate student must have been enrolled for one entire academic semester and starting a second
  • Students must have demonstrated leadership/success inside and outside the classroom
  • Students must be in good financial, academic, and conduct standing with the university
  • Students must maintain the values of The New School
  • Students must be matriculated full-time

If you are a staff or faculty member who would like to nominate a student for this position, please complete this form by 11:59 p.m. on April 1, 2025.
