TCDS Open House Featuring Brazilian Journalist Leonardo Sakamoto!
Join us on Tuesday, March 8th, for a conversation ‘What I Learned Being Cursed Online’ with New School Visiting Scholar and Brazilian journalist Leonardo Sakamoto, one of the main voices for human rights in the country and internationally recognized voice in the struggle against contemporary slavery.
Immediately following Sakamoto’s talk we will have our bi-annual TCDS Open House! Please join us for pierogi and wine at the traditional TCDS Open House and Reception for prospective Democracy & Diversity Institute participants, TCDS alumni, friends and associates. You will learn about the upcoming Democracy & Diversity Summer Institute in Wroclaw, Poland (6 graduate credits), to be held from July 5 to 21, 2016, and hear about our exciting future projects. As always it will be a great time for TCDS alumni to come catch up with old friends and colleagues!
Leonardo Sakamoto is a journalist and has a PhD in Political Science from the University of São Paulo. He has covered armed conflicts in distinct countries and human rights violations in Brazil. He is a Journalism Professor at PUC-SP and visiting scholar in the Politics Department at the New School for Social Research. He is also the Director of the NGO Reporter Brasil and a member of the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery.
