Alexandra Ruiz

Alexandra Ruiz is the founder of the nonprofit organization Immigrant Advancement Matters (I.A.M.).  I.A.M. serves the immigrant community in Queens, NY by offering ESL classes, conversation practices, and personal advancement workshops. Alexandra recently joined NYC Small Business Services as Executive Director of Business Development & Strategy supporting strategic initiatives and business programs that reach over 15,000 small businesses a year. In 2015, she completed her Masters in American History where she focused on the history of immigration policy post-9/11. She has 10+ years of experience in government, nonprofit management, and media. To date she has worked for various legislators including U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and New York State Senator Jose Peralta. She is returning to city government after working in the Bloomberg Administration in 2010 alongside the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development.
