Innovate NYC 2018: The Future of Pathways Challenge
The 2018 Innovate NYC Challenge seeks to enable youth from under-resourced communities to bridge the gap between education and employment and creating pathways to meaningful, family-sustaining careers.
Participants will be tasked with building an empathy-driven understanding of the system which currently offers unequal access to youths in career development opportunities. Barriers may include inadequate access to career exploration and work experiences, reduced levels of social capital, and forced prioritization of paid low-level jobs over career development.
The program runs in two phases. The first phase is a two day workshop in April for participants to explore their passions and purpose, come together as a team and get a first taste of the innovation method. The second phase is a hands-on, intensive three week workshop phase in June where they will work to solve the challenge. Supported by world renowned experts and the DO School facilitators, they will learn the DO School innovation method and create a piloted and tested real-life solution by the end of these three weeks.
