Marisa Desiree Valdez is a native New Mexican environmentalist and advocate for innovative STEM education and begins The New School’s MS program in Environment, Policy and Management Fall 2019. She has spent 9+ years developing environmental education projects that address community need in the U.S. and internationally.
From voter registration to STEM based outdoor exploration, developing sustainable movement based in social and environmental justice is a lifetime concentration.
When she’s not exploring the possibilities of her work, Marisa can be found roaming the great outdoors, gleaning inspiration from all expressions of creativity, experiencing hers and others culture and history or discussing ideas that challenge the imagination preferably over excellent food and drink.
What is the unmet social or environmental need you intend to address?
Adapt crowdsourcing technology to better attain the participation and interest of users through closer observation of cultural values and needs within individual communities.
What most excites you about participating in the Impact Entrepreneurship Fellowship?
Working with the IE mentors and fellows to pursue high impact and scalable work rooted in social transparency and environmental sustainability.
What most excites you about Impact Entrepreneurship in general?
The scholarly deconstruction of what has formed much of our economy today while impactfully reshaping our approach to imbalances.
Where do you think you need the most support regarding your venture concept?
I am always excited to learn but training with and working to develop new adaptations for technology and the tactics and budget to build a large scale idea from the ground up.
