Rekha Luciano

Rekha is an artist, educator, and activist. Having founded an art program at an inner city elementary school in Providence, Rhode Island, Rekha believes the access to a quality art education yields powerful and liberating outcomes. She has been recognized by the NAEA for her student’s project on the impact of gentrification, and is a recipient of the Rhode Island Foundation SPARK Grant for a collaborative, community beautification project. In addition to her work in the classroom, Rekha has curated cross media art events showcasing local artistic talent in Providence, New York City, and Lagos, Nigeria, furthering her belief in the importance of recognizing and celebrating the stories and artistic expressions by people of color.
What is the unmet social or environmental need you intend to address?
I intend to combat the culture of mass incarceration and recidivism through the establishment of a community based art gallery and studio directed to provide educational outreach and access to resources for people impacted by mass incarceration.
What most excites you about participating in the Impact Entrepreneurship Fellowship?
I am most excited about the access to mentors and the opportunity to collaborate with talented and inspiring individuals.
What most excites you about Impact Entrepreneurship in general?
I am looking forward to the Venture Lab serving as an immersive opportunity to employ actionable steps toward creating my venture.
Where do you think you need the most support regarding your venture concept?
I think the most support that will be required for my venture is access to a network where I can develop partnerships and generate funding.
