New York City Vaccination Policy and Spring 2022 Course Registration

A message from Xenia Markowitt, Interim Vice Provost for Student Success; and Rebecca Hunter, Vice President of Integrative Enrollment Analytics for Student Success and University Registrar

Dear Students,

As the university shared earlier this fall, New York City (NYC) began enforcing a new policy which requires all entertainment-related venues such as indoor dining, music and theater performance venues, art galleries, and movie theaters to require individuals accessing those spaces to show proof of full or partial COVID-19 vaccination. While we have a multi-layered approach to health and safety protocols on our campus, and have already taken steps to respond to the NYC Executive Order for our campus cafeteria, NYC universities are also required to take steps to ensure that any courses related to the entertainment and performance categories it defines are in compliance with the City’s vaccination policy.

For Spring 2022, courses related to the entertainment activities specified by the NYC Executive Order will be identified in the University Course Catalog with the following notation: “NYC Executive Order: Proof of Vaccination Required.” Students who register for a course tagged in this way will be required to show proof of a WHO-authorized COVID-19 vaccination to participate in these courses.

For students with approved medical or religious exemptions, the university will support students to pursue an academic accommodation process for potential academic alternatives to the affected classes for Spring 2022. Students who are unvaccinated should contact Student Health Services at shs@newschool.edu to discuss this process. Students who choose not to disclose their vaccination status beyond Student Health Services should not register for courses tagged with “NYC Executive Order: Proof of Vaccination Required.”

If you are not sure if you have met the COVID-19 vaccine requirements, please visit the SHS Portal and click on the Medical Clearances section on the left navigation bar. Instructions to upload your vaccination record can be found here. We encourage you to do so before spring registration begins on November 1 and in order to avoid related holds and delayed course selection.
